SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Senior Design Engineer in the Network Engineering and Architecture group responsibilities include the planning, design, testing, and communication of network solutions supporting voice, video, data and wireless products. This position will focus on the integration and transition of the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) into a converged IP services framework. 

 

JOB CODE DESCRIPTION:  

1-Conducts extensive lab evaluations and integration testing of network elements and document results.

2-Formulates integrated voice, data, and/or video network architectures based upon demand, capacity, emerging network services, trends, and technologies

3-Plans future network enhancements and directions for access, metro, and core networks.

4-Provides detailed engineering support and consultation to field systems, design engineers, and implementation teams.

5-Serves as primary subject matter expert in the areas of IPv6 routing, operations, and coexistance strategies with IPv4

6-Develops network element technical requirements and specifications.

7-Knowledge in any of the following techbologies is a plus: Packetcable, IMS, and SIP, and 3GPP

8-Knowledge of Home Networking including UPnP 

9-Some travel may be required

Position - Summary:

Manages the development and implementation of projects/programs requiring technical experience &/or education (IT/Engineering) to meet business process initiatives, process improvement, product launches, other strategies and objectives.  Analyzes existing project management methods to promote effective operations through standardization, improvement, simplification, discontinuance, or other methods.

 

Performs as the focal point throught which all processes, communicatoin, accountabilities and procedures are filtered through to ensure an aligned, well calibrated team effort.

 

Position - Roles & Responsibilities:

 

·         Develops detailed project schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports; tracks key project milestones and adjusts project plans and/or resources to meet needs of customers.

·         Initiates, plans, executes, and controls project efforts utilizing technological solutions.

·         Establishes and implements project management processes and methodologies to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, adhere to high-quality standards, and meet customer expectations.

·         Provides recommendations for operational efficiency and process improvements subject to management review in support of change.

·         Contributes to implementation success and technical system stability by using change methodologies that assure the reliability of service and business operations.

·         Creates and applies project control techniques that reduce risk from changing technological infrastructure, hardware, automations, systems software, or applications systems

·         Manages the most complex, most strategic projects under minimal or no supervision

Position - Qualifications:

Responsibilities:

·         Choose hardware and operating systems that are appropriate for any given application.

·         Work with the developers and networking teams to identify network resources required by the applications.

·         Install third-party applications using only the vendor documentation and support channels.

·         Identify log messages that should generate monitoring alarms.

·         Install J2EE contains, such as JBoss and WebLogic, and configure managed resources such as database connection pools.

·         Configure J2EE containers for high-availability.

·         Deploy Java applications into J2EE containers.

·         Analyze errors, stack traces, and thread dumps to identify and fix problems.

·         Install Apache web servers and configure them to talk to JBoss/WebLogic back-ends.

·         Configure Apache for SSL and install certificates.

·         Install Solaris and RedHat Enterprise Linux from a Jump Start server or CD-ROM.

·         Add/update/delete UNIX users and groups.
