Position Title:   Process and Standards Engineer

 

Location:             Washington, DC

Salary:                  Depend on Experience

 

Position Summary:        

The incumbent will work within the R&D Services and Technology organization, a shared services team that spans all Communications Test engineering organizations.  The incumbent will be responsible for understanding all existing  processes across all Business units (BUs) and then working to standardize and improve processes in collaboration with  and BU leadership.

The incumbent will be responsible for integrating and standardizing substantial DFx efforts during the design and development life cycle with a goal of improving a minimum of 10% development performance improvement across the board (time, COGs, yield, return rate).

The incumbent will be responsible for enhancing and maintaining the Product Development Process through leading the various Engineering management and staff in process mapping, development, enhancement, and maintenance activities.

The incumbent will develop material that will guide engineers in best practices for technology standards, working with the Technology Leads within the  organization, as well as with the associated technology leads within the larger  Engineering community.

The incumbent will participate in Engineering and Architecture Reviews, such as, but not limited to, PDRs and CDRs, to gain information that would lead to process improvement, as well as to assure that the appropriate standards and processes are being followed through product development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Assure a consistent, effective, and efficient common Product Development Process exists and is being followed.

·         Drive major DFx initiatives throughout the engineering development organizations and setup DFx processes to ensure initiatives are continuously followed.

·         Working with the various technology groups, assure that standards exist for each practice, and that they are being followed.

·         Evaluate tools and technologies for ease of dissemination of process and standards information

·         Host process and standards training sessions and seminars across client population

·         Assure a customer focused quality attitude and methodology within the engineering process and standards function.

·         Perform other reasonably related duties as necessary as assigned from time-to-time.

 

Qualifications  and Skills :

·         BS degree or higher from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited engineering curriculum in a field such as Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, with advanced technical degree desirable.

·         A solid understanding of the communications industry and underlying technologies is required.  Knowledge of the Test & Measurement industry; products; and manufacturing process, procedures, methodologies, and technologies is a plus.

·         A minimum of 10 years of experience in network equipment or communications test product development and production, solid track record of demonstrated engineering expertise in two or more high tech companies, in which one or more were ISO9000 certified. 

·         Strong operational management skills with the ability to establish plans and forecast and to meet commitments.

·         Demonstrated ability to understand engineering design products and to decompose them into their common parts

·         Has worked at multiple companies involved in low and high volume production employing stringent DFx development initiatives

·         Has worked with high-tech product development

·         Has worked with contract manufacturing houses and understands how to assess their needs and communicate with internal engineering resources to balance said needs to ensure DFM and DFA practices are implemented

·         Has worked in a test engineering environment and is able to integrate DFT and DFC initiatives

·         Has a thorough understanding of stage gate processes and can optimize these processes for both small and large organizations

·         Has an understanding of engineering modeling tools sufficient enough to ensure that up front modeling is occurring to ensure first pass yield rates will be high after designs are complete

·         Has significant change management experience to implement all of the above initiatives without alienating peers and colleagues

·         Strong working knowledge of all MS Office Applications inclusive of MS Project and Visio.  Incumbent will be required to develop many documents and presentations as part of process development.

·         High urgency, high energy level process oriented disciplined professional.

·         Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and master new technologies and techniques.
